ABOUT
Bren María Vienrich-Felling (she/her) is a Peruvian-born filmmaker, educator, and multimedia producer whose work explores the intersections of ecology, third-culture identities, memory, and material image-making. Her films have screened at the London Short Film Festival, Cosmic Rays Film Festival, Durham UK Film Festival, Micropolitan Film Festival, Moviate Underground Film Festival, and the Buenos Aires International Film Festival. Bren holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, in addition to a Certificate in College Teaching and a Master of Fine Arts in Experimental and Documentary Arts from Duke University.
She has taught at the university level, including courses in documentary filmmaking, film genres, horror cinema, film production, and editing for film and video. She has served as a Cinematic Arts Teaching Fellow at Duke University where she taught and mentored students in filmmaking and film theory. She has also served as a Kenan Institute for Ethics Fellow, during which she produced documentary work foregrounding farming practices and the role of women in agricultural spaces.
She is currently serving a one-year appointment as a Duke Arts Administration Fellow where she administers the programming and facilitation of arts workshops through Duke Arts Create, a series of hands-on arts workshops designed for Duke undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff and the surrounding Durham community. With more than fifteen years of experience in visual storytelling, Bren brings a professional background spanning film, multimedia production and administration, with collaborations across higher education, healthcare, technology, nonprofit, and eLearning. Her practice combines a documentary sensibility with an interdisciplinary approach to visual storytelling, emphasizing curiosity, experimentation, collaboration, and craft.
